A divorce can affect your career and the direction that your professional life is headed. This is something you need to be 100 percent aware of at all times. It is easy to forget about your work life during a divorce because you have so much going on. Of course, this is no excuse... There is a chance that you may need to switch jobs after going through the process of a divorce. This is not always the case, and it may not be with you. But if you are facing this situation it is in your best interest to be aware of anything and everything that could happen. Why would I need to change jobs? For one, now that you are divorced you may need to earn more money. This is especially true if your ex was the primary bread winner. You will now be solely responsible for your expenses. Can you get by on your current salary? If not, it may be time to ask for a raise or start searching for a new job. Additionally, you need to consider where you will be living. After a divorce you may no longer be living in the same house. Will you be able to find affordable housing close enough to your job? If not, you may want to search for a job that is closer to your new home, as well as one that offers better pay. It can be difficult to transition into a new job shortly after a divorce. After all, nobody wants their entire life to change at once. But if you are not earning enough money or live too far away from your job, you may need to look into transitioning into a new career. *Photo courtesy of mikecolvin82 on Flickr
